New theme, Work in progress
by Justin on Jan.27, 2009, under NearlyForgotten
Hello everyone. We’re still working on site, trying to get it up and going.
We found an excellent designer who is helping us make a custom theme. We liked it enough to put it live, but it’s still a work in progress. We have some ideas of things we want to change, but we want your input too. Post a comment, or drop me an email.
Also, what are your favorite movies that you don’t think enough people have watched.

Land of the Lost Returns?
by Justin on Jan.26, 2009, under NearlyForgotten
I just got back from my weekly trip to the movies a little while ago, and I happened to be checking out the new posters. Apparently, they are making a movie based on the television series ‘Land of the Lost’. It is currently scheduled for release on June 5th of this year.
I don’t know how many of you guys remember that series, but I used to watch it every week growing up as a kid. After looking it up, there were two versions on tv. I most likely am remembering the 1991 series, which is unfortunately not available on dvd. However I’ve linked you guys to the dvd boxsets from the 1974 series, which is supposed to be very good as well. The 1974 series is the one the movie seems to be based on anyway.
I only vaguely remember the details, but I believe it involved a family that fell through a fault line while driving in an earthquake? Anyway, once they landed/crashed/whatever, then… it gets kinda hazy, but they somehow find themselves back in time, another dimension, or otherwise in a different place… surrounded by dinosaurs. They also bump into a race called the sleestaks, who become the bad guys for the rest of the series.
I’m not sure about you, but I’m going to spend the next couple weeks finding and rewatching the series. I’ll try to let you know if its as entertaining as I remember. However, I’m sure it will be entertaining, if for nothing else than the pure nostalgia.
Trivia: In 2001 Kevin Smith released a movie called Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Will Ferrel, who also stars in the upcoming Land of the Lost, played a character named ‘Marshall Willenholly.’ This name was derived from ‘Will and Holly Marshall’ which are the main characters in the original Land of the Lost, as well as the movie. It would seem that both Smith and Ferrel remembered this series from their youth as well.

Do You Remember That Movie…?
by Justin on Jan.14, 2009, under NearlyForgotten
Have you ever been in that situation where you’re in a group of people and one of them makes some pop culture reference… but for some reason you can’t remember the movie, or you don’t remember seeing it at all? Don’t you feel like a complete idiot until you remember it? After beating yourself over the head for hours trying to remember it… have you ever immediately gone to blockbuster to rent it because it was just that good? No? How about you young whipper snappers who can barely remember the 80s? I bet it happens to you all the time… (Man I feel so old… especially since *I* barely remember the 80s)
Of course you have, we all have. However, when you’re in this situation and you cant remember the reference, sometimes you feel like you lost out on an important part of the conversation, and it’s not like you can just ask what that reference was from, unless you’re feeling like being ridiculed by your friends for the rest of the day.
I find myself in that situation all the time. Though, I usually find myself making the comment. I have owned and/or rented thousands of movies personally, and I have watched countless thousands of hours of television throughout the years. I also have an ongoing quest to keep myself up on pop culture; even if it means watching a movie made when I was only a few years old. As I command all of that useless knowledge… I still occasionally find myself on the receiving end of one of those moments. Because of that, I decided to create this site.
I’ve been tossing around the idea of starting a movie/tv review site for a while. Today I decided it was finally time to do it. This site will probably mention SOME new movies… However we will concentrate on the modern classics; Say… 1980s and up, but nothing is set in stone. I highly doubt we will make any posts on classic-classics, you know, the really old ones. Mostly because of the fact I have a bit of a pet peeve for grainy, black and white footage with bad special effects. Yes, I know, its the best they could do back then; I’ll keep it in mind, but it probably isn’t going to happen. Maybe I’ll bring on somebody just to do clasic-classics. If you’re interested in filling this position, drop me a line. Be sure to subscribe to our feed and shoot me an email if you have a suggestion of a movie you think people should take a second look at.
So here it is, I’m still working on it, and would welcome any help… anything from guest posting, to layout design. Contact me if you would like to help out.
